'Artist on a working challenge' is a project by KUD Mreža that offers a 5-week residency at Studio Asylum. This year the residency will be held in partnership with the Ljubljana Street Art Festival. We are looking for participants from Slovenia (residing outside Ljubljana) and international artists. The selected artist will be offered a residency at Studio Asylum, an exhibition space at Alkatraz Gallery and an outdoor location within the walls of ACC Metelkova mesto (Gesamtkunstwerk Metelkova).
Deadline for applications: 4 May 2022 Residency: 1 June – 7 July 2022 Location: ACC Metelkova mesto, Ljubljana (Alktraz Gallery and Studio Asylum) Partner: Institute For Urban Questions / Ljubljana Street Art Festival
Who can apply?
Contemporary artists with experience in visual and interdisciplinary arts living outside Ljubljana and Slovenia, regardless of gender and age. Unfortunately, the residential studio is not accessible to people with limited mobility.
What we offer?
· a living-and-working studio and the conditions for a gathered conception of an artistic project · production infrastructure and professional curatorial assistance · royalties and material costs: 2200€ · presentation at the Ljubljana Street Art Festival · organisational support · the possibility of a public event (opening) · promotion
Objective of the residency and expectations
The residency at the local Studio Asylum will allow the selected artist to get in touch with the pulse of AKC Metelkova mesto. An important added value of the working challenge will not only be to get to know the art scene and its actors in the capital - but also to focus on the reverse process; the transfer of skills, knowledge, ideas, reflections that the selected person will bring to ACC Metelkova mesto and beyond. We expect the artist to realise an exhibition at Alkatraz Gallery and create a public art intervention (sculpture, installation, mural, performance) at Metelkova.
